Ever year about a week from Christmas, My Sister and I go to Mom's to do our Christmas baking. We have been doing this for as long as I can remember.
This sugar cookies recipe is from the 1940s.
Cook Time: 10 minutes
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
Beat in eggs and vanilla.
Stir in the flour, baking powder,nutmeg and salt.
Cover, and chill dough for at least one hour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 6 to 8 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely and decorate!
