Chinese food Canadian style

BATTER FOR CHICKEN BALLS 1 egg 1 c. milk 1 c. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 1/2 tsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt Beat egg and stir in milk. Add sifted dry ingredients and beat until smooth. Dip chicken in batter. Fry in fat heated to 365 degrees. Cook pieces 13 minutes. Drain on paper towels. EGG ROLLS 1 lb ground pork 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon garlic powder 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons water 2 cups shredded cabbage 2 ounces shredded carrots 8 (7 inch square) egg roll wrappers Season pork with ginger and garlic powder and mix thoroughly. Heat mixture in a medium skillet, stirring, until pork is cooked through and no longer pink. Set aside. heat oil to about 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) While oil is heating, combine flour and water in a bowl until they form a paste. almond light fruit cake

with the weather the way it has been I got a longing for some xmas cake'this is my cousin Betsy's recipe that has been in her husbands family forever. 1 cup of butter 1 1/2 cups of white sugar 6 eggs (add one at a time) 1/2 cups of milk 3 1/2 cups of flour 1 tsp of salt 3 tsp of baking powder 1 lbs. of light raisins 8 oz. of glazed red and green cherries (cut in half) 4 0z. of glazed pineapple 1 tsp of vanilla 2 tsp of almond extract 1 tsp of lemon extract bake in a greased 5x11 pan or any pan or pans that measure equal space bake at 300 degrees for 2-21/4 hours

Pecan Pie

Best Flaky Pastry 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon shortening 2 to 3 tablespoons cold water Pecan Filling 2/3 cup sugar 1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted 1 cup corn syrup 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 eggs 1 cup pecan halves or broken pecans ~ Heat oven to 375ºF. ~ In medium bowl, mix flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut in shortening, using pastry blender until particles are size of small peas. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and pastry almost leaves side of bowl (1 to 2 teaspoons more water can be added if necessary). ~Gather pastry into a ball. Shape into flattened round on lightly floured surface. Roll pastry, using floured rolling pin, into circle 2 inches larger than upside-down pie plate, 9" x 1 1/4 inches deep Fold pastry into fourths; place in pie plate. Unfold and ease into plate, pressing firmly against bottom and side. Trim overhanging edge of pastry 1 inch from rim of pie plate. Fo

this recipe for scotch cookies is already on this site the only difference is I added 1 teaspoon of vanilla 1 teaspoon of almond to the recipe to give them a bit more flavour

Oatmeal Cookies

This is my Hubby's favourite cookie 1 cup butter, softened 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon salt 3 cups quick cooking oats Preheat the oven to 350 F . In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon; stir into the creamed mixture. Mix in oats until just blended. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheets. Cookies should be at least 2 inches apart. Bake for about 8-10 minutes in the preheated oven. Cool cookies on a wire rack.

Beef Stew

Beef Stew This is an old family recipe, which tastes even better than it looks Great on a cold winter day! 2T all-purpose flour 1/2tsp salt 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp pepper 1 tsp oregano, 1 1/2 lb stewing beef, 2 Tbsp canola oil , 2 medium onions, sliced . 2 packets oxo beef broth (mixed in 2 cups of water) 4 carrots, peeled and sliced., 1 turnip, peeled and sliced. 3 celery stalks, 1 inch pieces., 6 potatoes, peeled and diced. 1. In a bowl, combine flour, salt pepper garlic powder and oregano. dredge beef cubes through flour mixture 2. In a large heavy bottom stock pot, heat oil over medium heat. Add meat, onions and brown. 3. Add beef broth, and bring to a boil reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 1 to 2 hours or until beef is tender. 4. Add raw vegetables. Starting with turnip, bring to the boil reduce heat simmer for 15 minutes. Then add carrots bring to a boil reduce heat simmer 15 minutes, add potatoes. Continue to simmer for about 1/2 hour until vegetables are tender. . addi

Superbowl snacks!

Since I'm not that into football but I love hockey and there happens to be a game on Superbowl Sunday, I decided to make some snacks First thing is deep fried peperoni which is exactly what it says. I use Chris Brothers hot and deep fry for about one minute until it curls up a little. The second thing I made is a new recipe I found and I'm testing it out today: CHICKEN WING DIP 118 mL Frank's Original Hot Sauce (or similar) 2 227g packages regular (not low fat) cream cheese 236 mL bottle Ranch dressing 2 cups cooked chicken, flaked apart with a fork 227g shredded Cheddar cheese In a medium-size saucepan, bring hot sauce to a simmer over medium-low heat. Add cream cheese and stir continuously until fully melted. Stir in dressing.Add chicken and stir until fully coated. Add shredded cheese and stir until fully melted.Transfer mixture to a small crock pot and heat on low. Or transfer to a small casserole dish and bake at 350 °F until bubbly (approximately 20-25 minutes).Serve
